๐Ÿ”ข Numbers

Numbers can be counted, compared, ordered and broken apart.

๐Ÿ“˜

Classic example: 356 or 365?

  1. Both numbers have 3 hundreds.
  2. Compare the tens: 356 has 5 tens, 365 has 6 tens.
  3. 6 tens is bigger than 5 tens, so 365 is bigger.

Method 1: Count forwards

Counting helps with order: 356 comes before 365.

Method 2: Compare places

Hundreds, then tens, then ones.

๐Ÿ“ Place Value Explorer

Build a number and see chart, expanded form, word form and base-10 blocks.

Classic example: 4,328

  1. 4 thousands = 4000
  2. 3 hundreds = 300
  3. 2 tens = 20
  4. 8 ones = 8
  5. 4,328 = 4000 + 300 + 20 + 8

Common mistake

The digit 3 in 4,328 is not worth 3. It is worth 300.

๐Ÿ“ Number Lines

Number lines show order, equal spaces and distance. The New Target button now redraws the target and clears the old message.

Classic example: Find 0.7

  1. Start at 0.0.
  2. Move by tenths: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3...
  3. Stop at 0.7.

Classic example: Find 3/4

  1. Split the space from 0 to 1 into 4 equal jumps.
  2. Count 1/4, 2/4, 3/4.
  3. 3/4 is the third jump.

Step-by-step long division

Method 1: Formal long division

Divide, multiply, subtract, bring down.

Method 2: Chunking example

15 ร— 20 = 300, 432 โˆ’ 300 = 132. 15 ร— 8 = 120, 132 โˆ’ 120 = 12.

Method 3: Answer forms

28 remainder 12, 28 12/15 = 28 4/5, and 28.8.

Classic example: 84 รท 4

4 fits into 8 two times, then 4 fits into 4 one time. Answer: 21.

Classic example: 432 รท 15

15 fits into 43 two times. Then bring down 2 to make 132. 15 fits into 132 eight times. Remainder 12.

๐Ÿ• Fractions

Fractions are parts of a whole. V4 adds visual limits and notices so large fractions do not break the display.

/

Classic example: 15/20

  1. Both 15 and 20 can be divided by 5.
  2. 15 รท 5 = 3.
  3. 20 รท 5 = 4.
  4. 15/20 = 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%

Classic example: 1/2

Half the shape is shaded. 1/2 = 0.5 = 50%.

๐Ÿ”Ÿ Decimals

Decimals show parts of one whole using place value after the decimal point.

Classic example: 0.75

  1. 0.75 is 75 hundredths.
  2. That means 75/100.
  3. 75/100 simplifies to 3/4.
  4. 0.75 = 75%.

๐Ÿ’ฏ Percentages

Percent means out of 100. V4 includes classic worked examples and practice-friendly methods.

%
๐Ÿ“˜
